They’re native to South America, being found in the clear waters of the Amazon Basin along with many other dwarf cichlid varieties. Apistogramma cacatuoides are not only beautiful but they’re also particularly hardy, making them one of the most popular dwarf cichlid species for aquariums. There are a number of characteristics of Apistogramma Cacatuoides that make them so popular and unique, and means that they can be easily recognisable. Apistogramma cacatuoides, being a dwarf cichlid variety, are relatively small, with male apistogramma cacatuoides growing to no more than three inches in length and females to no more than two. There are also marked differences in their colour variations, with males being much more striking than females.
