Activities involved when working on a process mapping diagram can be described as selecting from among a series of images and symbols.  Each symbol of a given shape has a different meaning from the rest.  Usually the start of a process and the end are identified by an oval shape.  The various other steps involved in the mapping procedure are chosen to be represented by squares, triangles, circles, or rectangles.  They are usually linked together by lines and arrows.  Each step in the process of mapping can relate to a given work related activity and be influenced by the employee who handles that position or job.

When it comes to visualizing the plan of business related work procedures, using a process map diagram can offer great advantage as a visual aid.
